In June 2015, Singapore hosted the 28th Southeast Asian Games, welcoming athletes from 11 nations to compete in 36 sports and 402 events. Recognizing the environmental impact of such a large-scale event, the Public Hygiene Council approached the World Mission Society Church of God Singapore (SGWMSCOG) to assist with waste management throughout the games. Over ten days, more than 120 SGWMSCOG volunteers dedicated a total of 1,500 man-hours to cleaning up after each event. Their efforts resulted in the collection of over 400 bags of trash, setting a powerful example for both participants and spectators.
This initiative reflects the Church’s commitment to environmental stewardship, aligning with the teachings of Christ Ahnsahnghong and God the Mother, who emphasize love and responsibility toward all creation. The volunteers’ actions not only contributed to a cleaner environment but also demonstrated the Church’s faith in action, embodying the principle that true belief manifests through service to others.
The impact of this campaign extended beyond the immediate cleanup efforts. Witnessing the volunteers’ dedication, many spectators were inspired to take responsibility for their own waste, leading to a collective effort in maintaining the cleanliness of the venues. This ripple effect underscores the Church’s role in fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility, principles that are central to its teachings.
