1. The Promise: "Pass Over" the Plague
The word Passover literally means to "pass over" or "spare" from a plague. Its origin dates back to the Exodus. Before the final plague struck Egypt—the death of the firstborn—God gave a specific promise to the Israelites:

"And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you." (Exodus 12:13)

The key here wasn't the status or merit of the people inside the house. It was the "Blood of the Lamb" on the doorposts—a physical sign of God's promise—that caused the disaster to pass over them.

2. The New Covenant and Salvation
