Many people, whether they attend church or not, naturally assume that the day of worship is Sunday. It has become such a common belief that few stop to question where this tradition comes from. Is Sunday worship truly recorded in the Bible? Did God really command His people to worship on that day? For those who sincerely hope for the Kingdom of Heaven and desire to follow God’s will, this is something worth thinking about seriously.

Gen 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

The origin of the day of worship goes back to the book of Genesis. God created all things for six days and rested on the seventh day. Because of this, the seventh day came to be called the Sabbath. However, God did not simply rest and leave it at that. The Bible says that He blessed the seventh day and made it holy. This means the Sabbath is not just a day of rest, but a holy day through which God’s people can receive blessings.

Ex 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

This Sabbath was later established in the Ten Commandments. The fourth commandment says to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. Out of all the days in a year, God specifically told His people to remember this day. Just as people remember meaningful days in their lives, the Sabbath is a day that must be kept with a special heart.

Then what exactly is the Sabbath day? In biblical times, there were no names for the days of the week like today. Instead, days were counted as the first day, second day, and so on. The Bible clearly states that the Sabbath is the seventh day. When we apply this to the modern system, the first day is Sunday and the seventh day is Saturday.

Mk 16:9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.

This can also be confirmed through the resurrection of Jesus. In Mark 16 verse 9, it is written that Jesus rose on the first day of the week. As we know, Jesus resurrected on Sunday. If the first day is Sunday, then naturally the seventh day is Saturday.

Then why do so many people still worship on Sunday? This question is deeply connected to the essence of faith.

Jn 8:47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

It says that whoever belongs to God hears God’s words, and those who do not listen do not belong to God. Today, some people may not know about the Sabbath in the Bible, but others know and still choose not to follow it, making various reasons. This verse gives us something to reflect on.

The reason we live a life of faith is to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Then who can enter heaven?

Mt 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”

It is written that only those who do the will of God can enter. It is not enough to simply say we believe. What truly matters is knowing God’s will and putting it into practice.

For this reason, Christ Ahnsahnghong taught the truth of the new covenant Sabbath to lead us to heaven. He guided people to follow the teachings of the Bible rather than human traditions. He made us realize the meaning of the seventh day Sabbath and taught us to worship on Saturday. In the end, his teaching shows the way for us to follow God’s will and move toward the Kingdom of Heaven.
