Is the 'Cross' Truly Just a Symbol?

oday, countless churches take the cross for granted as a symbol of faith. However, is it truly pleasing to God, or is it an idol to be discarded?

First, God strictly forbade making any images.
Exodus 20:4-5 You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on earth beneath... You shall not bow down to them or worship them.

There is no exception for Christian symbols. Creating any physical object for religious devotion violates God's commandment.

Second, history shows how symbols degenerate into idols.
The Israelites once worshipped Moses’ bronze serpent, a historic symbol of salvation. King Hezekiah boldly destroyed it:
2 Kings 18:4 He broke into pieces the bronze serpent... for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it.

God praised this act. If a God-ordained symbol was destroyed when it became an idol, how much more is it idolatry to revere the cross—an execution tool?

Third, the Bible warns of the futility of man-made images.
Jeremiah 10:3-4 "They cut a tree out of the forest... They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.

This perfectly describes today's crosses. It is merely a helpless, handcrafted object.

We must fix our eyes not on a visible cross, but on the precious blood of Christ. Let us break away from human traditions and return to worshipping God in spirit and in truth.

In God's view, the cross is an idol. Therefore, the Church of God does not set up a cross.

To the apostles two thousand years ago, the cross was merely a piece of wood; they neither made nor worshipped it.
The first cross was erected within the Catholic Church around A.D. 431.
God's sacrifice is contained not in the cross, but in the Passover.

The Bible says that the Cross is an idol, and we must not follow the ways of the world. Like the early church members and King Hezekiah, we should remain faithful and worship only God by keeping the New Covenant that Christ Ahnsahnghong restored for our salvation.

The Bible clearly warns us not to make or set up idols. Since the cross is also an idol, it should not be set up or worshiped

The most important thing is God's word. God commanded us to not make any symbol. So we should follow the God's word!

If we truly believe in and follow Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, our focus should be on keeping the teachings He left for our salvation rather than on religious symbols. Jesus established the Passover of the New Covenant as a way for us to remember His sacrifice and receive the promise of eternal life.

When we look at the Bible, we can see that God’s people did not make religious symbols for themselves, as God commanded them not to make idols or images for worship. The early Christians focused on following God’s teachings rather than using religious symbols. As we study the Bible, we find many teachings about faith and salvation, but we do not find instructions to use the cross as a symbol of worship.
